WHO I AM

I have been in practice at Houston Methodist Hospital since 1995. I have a strong interest in minimally invasive approaches for cardiac surgery including catheter based techniques.

We work in a multidisciplinary fashion and include patients in decision making.

This allows me to offer the most effective and least invasive options for patients

Houston Methodist is ranked number one in Texas by US News and World Report.

Our Heart and Vascular Center is ranked amongst the best in the nation. It is located in The Walter Tower, a new facility that is the absolute state of the art in design, technology and efficiency.

The Houston Methodist culture puts the patient and family experience as its top priority

MY BACKGROUND

I obtained my Medical degree from the University of Cambridge in England. after which I trained in General Surgery then Cardiac Surgery at prestigious hospitals in London. I became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1987.
In 1988, I came to Houston to train under Dr DeBakey. Two years later, I was invited to complete my training in Dr DeBakey's program and was appointed to the staff at Houston Methodist in 1995 where I continue to practice.

I have a strong interest in  minimally invasive techniques for Cardiac and Thoracic surgery and my peers consider me a leader in the field. Each spring, I host the ReEvolution Summit for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS). Advanced techniques in minimally invasive cardiac surgery are taught by an international faculty. It is widely regarded as a superb conference for learning the principles of MICS, because of the extensive 'hands on' lab component. Surgeons from all over the world attend this conference to learn from the best in the field.

My research interests include various aspects of minimally invasive cardiac surgery. I am actively engaged in trials of new trans catheter devices for aortic, mitral and tricuspid valves. I have been an invited speaker at many conferences in the US and abroad and continue to travel and teach extensively.

I have started cardiac surgery programs at all four of the satellite hospitals in the Houston Methodist system and I continue to oversee these programs for quality and best practices.

These achievements, and others, have been made possible by strong interpersonal and leadership skills and always putting patients best interests first.
